About The Position

The Non-Certified Medical Assistant works under general supervision to perform basic medical assistant activities for patients. The role assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care at Fort Sanders Perinatal Center, which provides care for women with high-risk pregnancies.

Requirements

One year of related experience in a medical office or facility is required.
No specific minimum education is listed; education must be sufficient to meet the standards for any license or certification required by the issuing authority.
No licensure is required.

Responsibilities

Perform basic medical assistant procedures, including weighing patients, taking vital signs, administering injections, checking blood sugars, and performing urinalysis and urine pregnancy tests; alert the provider to abnormalities.
Verify patient information by interviewing patients and confirming the purpose of their visit.
Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families, demonstrating sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
Assist physicians or practitioners with examinations, OB/GYN procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment.
Monitor and ensure accurate recording in patient medical records.
Assist with ordering lab requests based on provider orders.
Inspect the area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, and take corrective action when appropriate.
Clean instruments and clean and restock examination rooms daily; transport instruments to sterile processing as needed.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete required annual education assignments; work toward goals and objectives; and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
