About The Position

Allina Health is a not-for-profit health system serving individuals, families, and communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The Medical Assistant provides support to providers and nursing staff in delivering timely, quality patient health care services. Duties include rooming patients, managing patient flow, administering medication, and communicating with patients. This position is in the Allina Health Group OB GYN West department and may float to the Allina Health Eden Prairie, Greenway, Bloomington, and East Lake Street Clinics. The position is 1.0 FTE, or 80 hours per two-week pay period, with 8-hour day shifts and no weekends. A $2,000 starting bonus is available to eligible external talent. The role contributes to a safe care environment, follows established care and equipment procedures, and supports patient care through delegated clinical and administrative tasks.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old and have the education and/or experience needed to meet the required principal competencies.
Must have completed a Medical Assistant program or a comparable healthcare education program with a similar scope of clinical training.
Candidates with fewer than six months of Medical Assistant experience must have completed at least 160 hours of clinical externship or equivalent clinical practicum.
Must have current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or complete Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED.
Previous Medical Assistant experience.
Medical terminology knowledge.
Medical Assistant certification preferred. Accepted certifications include CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), and CMAA (NHA).

Responsibilities

Room patients, manage patient flow, and obtain adequate patient medical information and data.
Collect and confirm patient information through interviews, questionnaires, and vital signs, and document accurately in the EMR.
Assist patients in preparing for physician examinations, including providing psycho-emotional support.
Collect, label, and process specimens.
Facilitate obtaining laboratory and imaging results.
Respond to electronic medical record inbox messages as delegated by an RN or provider.
Provide front desk coverage and backup for patient registration and scheduling as needed.
Perform patient care tasks as delegated by a provider or RN, including injections and assistance with procedures.
Support patient care and reinforce information about tests, labs, procedure preparation, treatment plans, prevention, and other health topics.
Coordinate test and procedure results with a provider or RN.
Prepare refill information for provider review and prescription as needed.
Assist with patient transportation as needed.
Help maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees; report environmental risks and equipment malfunctions to a supervisor and through safety huddles.
Use equipment according to policies, procedures, manufacturer directions, and standards.
Follow policies, procedures, standard work, and proper techniques when providing patient care.
Clean, stock, and maintain inventory for exam, medication, and supply rooms.
Report acute problems and changes in patient condition.
Apply high-reliability safety principles to all interactions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
