Medical Assistant - Women's Health Office
About The Position
The Medical Assistant performs assigned direct and indirect care tasks in an ambulatory setting to meet patient care needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Licensed Independent Practitioner. As a member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant accepts appropriate delegation and carries out assigned activities in accordance with the patient care plan, organizational policies and procedures, and principles of patient-centered care. The role is limited to functions permitted for unlicensed healthcare personnel under New York State law. The position is in a women's health office in Albany, New York, in the HBD - OBGYN Generalist department/unit, and works a day shift. The role may involve access to sensitive information, including HIPAA-protected health information; workforce members must limit access and disclosure to the minimum necessary and protect information from unauthorized access or modification.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program.
- Medical Assistant certification (CMA or CCMA).
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both within a team and independently.
Nice To Haves
- Medical office experience is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Document information accurately and promptly in patient records.
- Obtain prior authorizations from insurance companies.
- Generate medical renewals under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
- Assist LPNs with obtaining information for pump, sensor, and meter approvals.
- Assist with clinical coverage as needed.
- Adhere to Albany Med Center's regulatory compliance requirements.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
- Protect sensitive information by limiting access and disclosure to the minimum necessary and safeguarding it from unauthorized access and modification.
