The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of clients under the direction of the Physician or Primary Care Provider (PCP) by performing various duties. This role requires understanding and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations concerning client confidentiality, greeting clients courteously, identifying clients accurately, interviewing clients, obtaining vital signs and relevant history, and recording information in client records. The Medical Assistant will prepare clients and treatment rooms for examinations, prepare equipment, and utilize sterile techniques when necessary. They will assist Medical Providers in established procedures, operate equipment for routine diagnostic tests, and interpret pediatric periodicity charts. Responsibilities also include reviewing, reconciling, and administering immunizations according to ACIP guidelines, performing specific injections, and cleaning/disinfecting exam rooms and work areas. The role involves managing equipment care and sterilization, reporting supply deficits, guiding clients to labs and referrals, and entering/retrieving data from the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Additionally, the Medical Assistant will answer phones, take messages, communicate with clinic staff for efficient client flow, report emergencies, maintain positive working relationships, attend meetings and trainings, and maintain a professional, organized, and clean working environment. Professional behavior, appropriate attire, and participation in Tele-Health visits are expected. A willingness to learn about American Indian culture, demonstrate cultural awareness and humility, and deliver services in a culturally responsive manner is essential, along with adherence to accreditation and compliance standards. Other duties may be assigned.
