About The Position

The Medical Assistant provides administrative and clinical support to ensure efficient primary care delivery while fostering a smooth, compassionate, and patient-focused experience. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position at Worthington Family Physicians in Worthington, Ohio, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role works closely with the clinical care team to support patient care, communication, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction. Duties include preparing patients and exam rooms, taking histories and vital signs, administering vaccines and injections, collecting and processing specimens, performing point-of-care tests, assisting with routine procedures, supporting patient education, and completing related administrative work. The Medical Assistant also helps maintain an organized and safe work area and protects patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
Self-disciplined, energetic, passionate, and innovative.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner.
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and document efficiently in an EHR.
Knowledge of vaccine administration, storage, handling, and documentation.
Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures.
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions for establishing a safe work environment.
Skill in assisting with a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
Skill in taking vital signs.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
Customer service skills, social perceptiveness, and a service-oriented approach.
Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the clinical care team to deliver the best care for patients.
Promote direct communication among the care team, patients or caregivers, and appropriate care providers to optimize outcomes.
Collaborate with care team members to address gaps in care, including chart preparation.
Promote improved clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction and efficient use of resources.
Advocate for patients to help ensure high-quality care.
Set up medical equipment and perform related tests as applicable; administer injections; and perform routine specimen collection and point-of-care tests.
Administer vaccines as directed.
Interview patients about medical concerns and obtain medical histories.
Measure and record vital signs, including pulse, temperature, blood pressure, height, and weight, in patients’ EHRs.
Perform blood draws and specimen processing.
Assist with routine medical procedures as requested.
Prepare patients and treatment rooms for examinations; drape patients and position instruments and equipment.
Review physician orders and lab requests and follow up as needed.
Call in prescriptions and order refills as approved and directed.
Communicate test results to patients as directed.
Assist with patient education using educational tools, periodicals, flyers, and handouts.
Assist with applicable forms and patient paperwork, including referrals, prior authorizations, and pre-certifications.
Respond to patient phone calls as appropriate.
Maintain a clean and well-organized work area and protect patient confidentiality in alignment with HIPAA regulations.
Attend meetings and participate in classroom activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
