Med Assistant Training Program - June 2026 Program Start
About The Position
Children’s Wisconsin is offering a Medical Assistant Training Program with a June 2026 program start. This program is designed to provide trainees with foundational coursework and training for Medical Assistant Certification. The program includes classroom training at Employ Milwaukee and a clinical externship at a Children’s Wisconsin clinic. Participants will receive an hourly wage during the 18-week training period. Laptop computers and necessary equipment will be loaned to accepted trainees. This is a full-time, Monday-Friday program, with coursework and studying required in addition to classroom and externship hours. Submitting an application does not guarantee a spot, as the program has a competitive selection process involving interviews and a TABE test assessment.
Requirements
- Must be a Milwaukee County resident required to meet grant funding eligibility.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Prior customer service experience is required.
- Prior healthcare experience is required.
- TABE score equal to a 6th grade level in reading & math.
- Availability to continue working as a medical assistant for 2+ years at Children's Wisconsin after completing the training program.
- Must meet grant eligibility requirements.
- A passion for wanting to work in healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Receive foundational coursework and training for a Medical Assistant Certification.
- Complete classroom training in person at Employ Milwaukee.
- Complete clinical externship hours at a Children’s Wisconsin clinic.
- Complete coursework and studying in addition to classroom and externship work schedule.
- Work full-time, Monday – Friday.
- Willingness to learn and perform both blood draws and immunizations to pediatric patients.
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
- Physical ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as push and pull when performing cleaning functions.
