This role, internally known as a Flex Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist Trainee, is an opportunity to launch a healthcare career with full training provided in phlebotomy and other clinical procedures. No prior phlebotomy or medical assistant experience is required. The trainee will provide exceptional care and support to patients, remove barriers to care, and serve as the first point of contact. Responsibilities include front desk duties, patient intake, schedule management, billing and insurance knowledge, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach. The role requires strong team collaboration, innovative problem-solving, empathy, focus, and compassion. The trainee will master the company's technology suite, perform office upkeep, and complete clinical training and certifications within the first six months. Upon successful completion of training, responsibilities and compensation will scale to that of a Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist, including performing venipuncture, assisting with extended scope duties, maintaining in-office care standards, and supporting providers with clerical duties.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in high-touch customer or patient-facing roles.
• Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency in computer technology such as typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
• Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
• A proven ability to display confidence and instill trust with patients while delivering individualized, human-centered, customer-focused care.
• A proven track record of persisting through change, consistently stepping up to take action on challenges, and learning quickly and effectively when faced with new situations or tasks.

Responsibilities

• Use C-I-CARE framework in all patient interactions.
• Ensure a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, appropriate follow-up scheduling, strong knowledge of billing and insurance, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach.
• Perform all front-of-house duties including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
• Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in team problem-solving, and supporting in-office providers with ad-hoc requests.
• Master the technology suite including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, and the Electronic Medical Record System (1Life).
• Perform opening and closing duties/daily office upkeep, including maintaining patient and employee-facing spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
• Successfully complete One Medical clinical training and state-required education and/or certifications within the first six months of employment.
• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 60 days of hire.
• Provide best-in-class venipuncture services on a population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics (after training completion).
• Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs (after training completion).
• Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, and processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization (after training completion).
• Answer patient messages, follow up on lab cases, and assist providers and virtual medical teams with clerical duties such as medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting (after training completion).
