About The Position

The Medical Assistant I supports healthcare teams by assisting with clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. The role includes direct patient interaction to promote comfort and address concerns, and collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care. Responsibilities include taking and documenting vital signs, collecting specimens, preparing examination rooms and equipment, scheduling appointments, and helping manage patient flow. The position also performs general office duties and advocates for patients using a positive customer service approach.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to comply with local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure and collect blood samples and other specimens.
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
Proficiency in electronic health record systems and medical office software.
Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others.

Nice To Haves

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; various issuers accepted.
Certified Medical Assistant credential; various issuers accepted.
0–1 year of direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work preferred.

Responsibilities

Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers.
Record medical histories, vital statistics, test results, and other information in medical records.
Perform general office duties, including answering telephones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms.
Act as a liaison with other departments and advocate for patients with a positive customer service approach.
Collect blood, tissue, and other laboratory specimens; log specimens and prepare them for testing.
Prepare examination rooms, keeping them neat and clean and supplies stocked.
Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
