A Medical Assistant Apprentice is responsible for learning the Medical Assistant trade at Intermountain Healthcare while attending a Medical Assistant Program. This position will require in-person classroom training as well as working in various clinics for the clinical rotations portion of the program. The Medical Assistant Program is 21 weeks long. After the program is completed, successful apprentices will be assisted in finding permanent placement as a Medical Assistant within one of Intermountain Clinics. A 2-year agreement is required, and if an apprentice leaves the program or prior to the 2-year mark, they will be required to pay back the cost of the program, which is $4,900.00. This is a highly competitive position, with only 10 people selected per cohort. The MA apprentice will observe patient-oriented procedures under the direction and supervision of Tier II or Tier III Medical Assistant, Practice Manager, clinician, RN, or LVN throughout the different divisions at Intermountain Healthcare. They will have the opportunity to practice with direct supervision and review skills assessment improvement opportunities with a mentor. Apprentices are expected to provide feedback to their Mentor on areas they may be struggling with for additional coaching. As a medical assistant apprentice, they will be responsible for a wide variety of clinical and administrative tasks under the direction and guidance of experienced professionals, allowing them to hone skills under ‘safety net’ conditions to be fully prepared to enter the workforce as a competent, skilled professional. The MA apprentice will be expected to be engaged on any guidance given and to follow the Code of Conduct and the guiding principles and values at IMH.
