The South Dakota Attorney General's Office is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join its Medicaid Fraud Abuse and Neglect Services Unit (MFANS) and Criminal Litigation Division. This is a trial-focused position intended for attorneys who want meaningful courtroom experiences, professional growth, and litigation opportunities. Attorneys in the Medicaid Fraud Abuse and Neglect Services Unit prosecute cases on behalf of the State of South Dakota, fighting fraud in our State's Medicaid system and where elder or financial exploitation are present. The work is challenging, consequential, and mission driven. This position requires a self-starting attorney with experience in criminal or civil litigation. Sound prosecutorial judgment and a strong desire to serve the public are essential. In addition, opportunities exist to work in areas involving civil litigation. The Division's work is guided by the core principles we emphasize throughout our office: fairness, integrity, professionalism, and the responsible exercise of prosecutorial discretion. Our goal is to do the right work, the right way, for the right reasons to protect South Dakotans' taxpayer dollars and the States' elderly population. MENTORSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The Medicaid Fraud, Abuse, and Neglect Services Unit and the Criminal Litigation Division are committed to developing prosecutors. Attorneys in this position receive hands-on trial experience and direct mentoring from senior prosecutors. This position offers opportunities to work on a diverse and evolving caseload and exposure to complex legal and evidentiary issues that build long-term litigation skills.
