About The Position

An early-stage, AI-powered news and media startup is seeking a hands-on Media Planner & Buyer to lead paid social and programmatic campaigns that support audience growth and client programs. The role combines campaign planning and strategy with end-to-end execution, optimization, and reporting, while helping shape the company’s media function as it grows. The work includes translating campaign goals into practical targeting, channel, and budget recommendations; personally building campaigns; and converting performance data into clear recommendations. The Media Planner & Buyer will work with audience, creative, and client teams, adapt to shifting priorities, and help identify recurring needs and processes. This is a bridge role that will advise on how to resource media going forward, including defining the scope of a future permanent hire. The role also involves looking for opportunities to streamline workflows with AI tools, such as agents or automations. The position is fully remote, pays $55 per hour, and is scheduled for 40 hours per week. The contract runs ASAP through mid-January 2027, with potential to extend. Eastern or Central time zone hours are preferred, and some availability between Christmas and New Year’s is required. This is a W2 role.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of experience leading and executing paid social and programmatic campaigns at an agency, media company, public affairs firm, or similarly fast-paced environment.
  • Current, hands-on expertise in Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and at least one programmatic platform such as The Trade Desk or StackAdapt.
  • Strong understanding of audience segmentation, geographic and contextual targeting, first-party data, retargeting, and platform capabilities and limitations.
  • Self-directed working style, including identifying required work, solving problems, flagging risks early, and following through with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple campaigns accurately under tight deadlines.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and willingness to create structure rather than step into a predefined role.

Nice To Haves

  • Comfort with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, and curiosity about using them to work smarter.

Responsibilities

  • Consult on audience strategies and build media plans for varied audiences, including local readers, broad consumer segments, business leaders, policymakers, and opinion influencers.
  • Translate campaign goals into practical targeting, channel, and budget recommendations.
  • Contribute strategic thinking through memos, recommendations, and brainstorms with the team and founder.
  • Build, launch, manage, and optimize campaigns across Meta Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and programmatic platforms such as The Trade Desk and StackAdapt.
  • Own campaign execution end to end, including setup, trafficking, quality assurance, budget pacing, testing, optimization, and reporting.
  • Deliver against campaign commitments for reach, impressions, engagement, and other goals.
  • Partner with audience, creative, and client teams to launch campaigns quickly and adapt as priorities shift.
  • Turn performance data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Recognize when a request differs from the underlying need and deliver both.
  • Identify recurring needs, propose processes, and advise on future media resourcing, including the scope of a future permanent hire.
  • Look for ways to streamline workflows using AI, including agents or automations.
