About The Position

Apple is seeking a Media-IP SoC Performance Architect to join its Platform Architecture team. The team develops performance models for complex multimedia IPs used in Apple SoCs across products including Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams to define new-feature architectures and evaluate performance, power, and area trade-offs. You will provide data-driven architectural insights aimed at delivering the best customer experience. The role includes developing, validating, and correlating high-level C++ performance models; building tools and methods to analyze and visualize performance data; applying data science and machine learning techniques; presenting performance-study results to inform architectural decisions; and analyzing product traces and simulating Media use-case data flow to provide performance and power feedback to architecture and software teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience with computer architecture and software engineering principles.
  • Experience in C++ object-oriented software development.
  • Strong understanding of SoC architectures, including fabrics, memory systems, QoS, arbitration, and queuing theory.
  • Experience with performance-model development and analysis, including data analytics, statistics, and applied machine learning.
  • Expertise in C++, including the latest STL libraries, and strong skills in modular object-oriented software architectures and design patterns.
  • Proficiency in Python, Lua, and shell scripting languages.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to tackle complex architectural challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting technical results to cross-functional audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • MS/PhD with 20+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with functional architects, design, and software teams to plan, implement, validate, and correlate high-level C++ performance models.
  • Develop custom tools and approaches for analyzing and visualizing performance data, applying data science and machine learning techniques to produce architectural insights.
  • Present performance-study results to cross-functional teams to inform and drive architectural decisions.
  • Validate performance models against specifications and correlate models with RTL.
  • Use and develop tools to analyze product traces and simulate data flow for Media use cases, providing performance and power feedback to architecture and software teams.
  • Help define the architecture of new features and optimize performance, power, and area trade-offs for Media IPs.
