Entry Level or Associate Mechanical System Design Engineers
About The Position
The Boeing Company is seeking Entry Level or Associate Mechanical System Design Engineers for its Air Dominance division in Boeing Defense, Space & Security. These positions support current and emerging aircraft programs in the Greater St. Louis region, with work locations in Berkeley, Hazelwood, St. Louis, or St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois. Engineers develop, maintain, and modify air vehicle subsystems and component designs—including armament, crew systems, environmental cooling, equipment, fuel, hydraulics, landing gear, mechanisms, and thermodynamics—using 3-D computer-aided design tools and other design methods. Their product definitions support engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. At Level 1, the engineer assists with subsystem requirements, design work, testing, and supplier activities, and works under close supervision. At Level 2, the engineer assists with requirements integration and documentation, develops basic subsystem and component designs, performs tests, supports supplier coordination, and investigates emerging technologies for future product concepts. This level works under general supervision. The role requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering focused on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace/Aeronautical, or Material Sciences. Level 2 candidates also need at least two years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. Candidates must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance is required after starting. Some positions may also require Special Program Access. Boeing does not sponsor employment visas. Relocation is available based on candidate eligibility. The position is on Shift 1 and is not contingent upon a program award.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering focused on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace/Aeronautical, or Material Sciences.
- Level 2: At least two years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Experience using NX/Teamcenter and familiarity with reading 2-D drawings.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required by the U.S. Government. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance is required after starting.
- Some positions require the ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which U.S. citizenship is required.
- Successful candidates must satisfy the Company's Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
Nice To Haves
- Mechanical design experience on military or commercial aircraft.
- An active U.S. security clearance within the past 24 months.
- Experience with aircraft fluid-system design and components, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, sensors, and controls.
- Experience with component requirement specifications and managing supplier development activities.
- Experience with thermal analysis tools such as ANSYS Thermal Desktop.
- Experience with modeling and simulation software such as Matlab, Simulink, Simcenter Amesim, and Flomaster.
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools such as Magic Systems of Systems Architect.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with agile planning and execution.
- Experience developing solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems requiring ingenuity and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Assist with documenting air vehicle subsystem requirements to establish the system design (Level 1).
- Assist with developing, maintaining, and modifying air vehicle subsystem and component designs using 3-D computer-aided design tools and/or other design methods (Level 1).
- Assist with tests to validate and verify that systems and components meet requirements and specifications (Level 1).
- Assist with managing supplier development, test, and production activities to optimize designs and achieve program goals (Level 1).
- Assist with developing, integrating, and documenting air vehicle subsystem requirements to establish the system design (Level 2).
- Develop, maintain, and modify basic air vehicle subsystem and component designs using 3-D computer-aided design tools and/or other design methods (Level 2).
- Perform tests to validate and verify that systems and components meet requirements and specifications (Level 2).
- Assist with supplier development, testing, and production activities, including supplier coordination, to optimize designs and achieve program goals (Level 2).
- Support investigations of emerging technologies and develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements (Level 2).
- Provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
