Mechanical Engineers

Central Moloney•Pine Bluff, AR

About The Position

Central Moloney is hiring experienced mechanical engineers to design, develop, improve, and support mechanical components and assemblies for distribution transformers. The role emphasizes hands-on sheet-metal design and welded fabrication, with attention to how material selection, bend allowances, welds, tolerances, joints, and manufacturing processes affect finished products. Engineers work directly with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to address real-world design and production challenges and contribute to both existing products and new product development. The position involves designing transformer components and custom configurations, performing mechanical calculations, preparing drawings and bills of materials, and supporting manufacturing, testing, certification, and customer-related technical discussions. Engineers also help resolve non-conformances, investigate root causes, implement design improvements, and contribute to standardization and process improvement. Experience with transformers or electrical distribution equipment is beneficial but not required. This is a full-time, exempt position in the Engineering department. The job advertisement identifies the work location as the United States / Canada but does not specify whether work is onsite, hybrid, or remote. The position is safety-sensitive. Central Moloney is a tobacco-free facility, and tobacco products are not permitted on company property.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Experience developing mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with CAD and engineering design tools.
  • Strong design and problem-solving capabilities in sheet-metal design and welded fabrications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transformers or electrical distribution equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for distribution transformers, including tanks, core-coil frame assemblies, cooling systems, and lifting or handling features for custom and non-standard configurations.
  • Perform mechanical calculations, including structural strength for short-circuit forces, thermal performance, and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Verify bushing locations, terminal clearances, and component and accessory layouts.
  • Use engineering software such as AutoCAD, Solid Edge, or proprietary transformer design tools for mechanical design, modeling, and analysis.
  • Prepare and review manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and 3D CAD models.
  • Interpret and apply relevant industry standards, including IEEE, ASTM, and CSA, to support compliance.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions with customers, and root-cause analysis of production issues.
  • Contribute to standardizing transformer designs and developing design tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Stay informed about evolving industry standards and participate in industry committees and technical events as required.
  • Support certification and testing requirements, including pressure, rupture, vacuum, tamper-proof or enclosure-integrity, dielectric, short-circuit, arc-fault, and thermal-performance testing.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, test, and quality teams to resolve non-conformances, implement engineering changes, and validate design improvements.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams, including weld specifications, component and material selection, and fit-up requirements.
