The purpose of your role as an Estimator is to prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. Disciplines could be plumbing, piping or sheet metal systems. You may independently estimate a small to medium sized plan/spec, design assist or design build projects. This role involves developing proposals and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate, estimating sizes, distances, and quantities, and determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity. You will analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates, and prepare estimates by calculating a complete takeoff of the scope of work and required contents of the estimate. Reviewing design options and recommending the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials may also be part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will develop proposals for current or prospective customers, develop and deliver accurate project cost estimates, and assess the cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services by comparing actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. You will prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project, and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Reviewing material and labor requirements to determine the most cost-effective outcome and obtaining quotes from subcontractors and vendors, adhering to scope and specification are also key aspects of this role. You will document account activities, generate reports, and keep records of business transactions with customers and suppliers, and maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures. You will also support other department personnel as required, which may include preparing estimates in other disciplines, and contribute to the desired culture within the organization, including a safety-centric work culture.
