About The Position

This role is for a Mechanical Engineering Technician position performing various tasks on a BEV in the Powertrain Integration (Vehicle Shop) Lab. The lab is in the process of being relocated and will remain under the direction of Accelera Emobility. The technician will be responsible for conducting performance and reliability testing on engines, components, systems, and controls, as well as diagnosing and resolving issues. They will also configure and operate data acquisition systems, analyze data, write computer programs for analysis, and interpret results. The role involves performing builds, tear downs, and inspections of rigs, engines, and components, as well as grading and measuring components. Fabrication of necessary parts and installation of engines and instrumentation in test cells are also key duties. The technician will use common tools and software, design and execute test plans, and prepare test reports. They will also be expected to understand and apply company and department guidelines, train apprentices, interface with customers and engineers, coordinate programs, and participate in quality maintenance and improvement projects. Additionally, the technician will develop and give presentations, comply with all safety policies, demonstrate confidentiality, and participate in audits. Additional responsibilities include programming and data processing abilities, knowledge of HV systems (or willingness to be trained), obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), executing assembly/disassembly of suspension components, and possessing excellent communication and presentation skills. Mandatory training, communication with internal customers, obtaining a forklift license, executing 5S activities, learning fabrication and diagnostic skills, reviewing timesheets, and purchasing necessary tools are also expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification OR Associates degree from an accredited program in a related field and at least two years of relevant experience OR Bachelors degree in a related field.
  • Department of Labor Certification OR four year experience/education requirement accomplished through either Bachelors degree in related field OR associates degree in related field and at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Programming and data processing abilities.
  • Knowledge and awareness of HV systems and processes. Or willing to be trained in this area.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Comfortable with executing assembly/disassembly of suspension components on busses, trucks, rigs, etc.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Required to do all mandatory training to remain compliant in their roles (HSE, CLC courses, bottle training, LOTO, etc.).
  • Technician will be required to communicate with internal customers via email and collaboration applications (i.e. MS Teams).
  • Technician will be expected to obtain forklift license.
  • Execute and participate in 5S activities.
  • Technician will be expected to learn necessary fabrication skills and diagnostic skills.
  • Technician will be expected to review their time sheet every week, including T3.
  • Technician will be expected to purchase all necessary tools to work in the Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts performance and reliability testing on multiple and single cylinder engines, components, systems, and controls.
  • Performs diagnosis of engines, components, systems, controls, and test cell problems and initiates appropriate resolutions.
  • Configures and operates data acquisition systems; analyzes and reviews data for appropriateness.
  • Writes computer programs to assist in analysis and data interpretation.
  • Configures engine test programs; interprets results; makes necessary adjustments; documents, defines data collected, and maintains electronic files.
  • Performs rig, engine and component builds, tear down, and inspections.
  • Grades and measures components.
  • Creates sketches for machining and fabricates necessary piping, tubing, and brackets from prints and drawings.
  • Installs engines and instrumentation of engines and components in test cells, test rigs.
  • Uses common tools such as Calterm, Asset, Cyflex, etc.
  • Designs, documents, and executes test plans; provides input during the creation of test plans; prepares test reports to include findings, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Understands and applies appropriate company and department rules and guidelines to work.
  • Works with and trains apprentices and technicians.
  • Interfaces with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions.
  • Coordinates programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.
  • Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.
  • Leads and participate in improvement projects.
  • Develops and gives presentations to customers and suppliers.
  • Knows and complies with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality as required.
  • Participates in self- and team-audits and associated corrective action.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to get the job done.
