Draper is seeking a mechanical engineering co-op student to help design, develop, and analyze novel solutions to problems of national interest. Students in the Mechanical Engineering Division work on a broad range of technical challenges, applying existing engineering knowledge and developing new skills while contributing to solutions for national-interest problems. Under the guidance of engineers, co-op students may create detailed designs using 3-D CAD software such as SolidWorks or PTC Creo, or analyze system performance through simulations using finite element software such as Ansys. Work may include designing for manufacturability, creating drawings and tolerances, and analyzing structural and thermal performance. Students may also work with engineers and technicians to fabricate and assemble systems, using Draper’s machine shop, rapid prototyping lab, or circuit card assembly facility, and may interact with materials characterization or metrology facilities. Assignments develop practical knowledge of engineering processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, and systems, as well as their interrelationships. Students also have the opportunity to build professional connections. Specific project tasks depend on immediate program priorities. Co-op students must be U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited engineering curriculum and able to work full-time for six months. Hours and program duration may have flexibility based on the applicant’s school schedule and availability.
