Mechanical Engineering Intern | Ontario, CA
About The Position
This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Ontario, California. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry while gaining hands-on experience through real project work alongside experienced engineers and consultants. In this role, you'll support project budgets, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help meet project goals and client expectations across education-focused work. You'll contribute in a collaborative environment that also supports broader public-sector and institutional work, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.
Requirements
- Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
- Strong interest in design consulting
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Nice To Haves
- Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist with design portions of mechanical systems projects according to code and IMEG standards
- Assist with researching commercially available equipment
- Assist with maintaining client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files
- Assist with coordinating design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
- Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
- Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check
- Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information
- Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement
