Carrier•East Syracuse, NY
•$43,500 - $87,500

About The Position

Carrier Corporation’s Air Management Systems (AMS) group in Syracuse, New York, is seeking a student for a full-time summer position in 2027. AMS develops advanced, highly efficient fan technologies for HVAC applications. The internship provides an opportunity to work alongside practicing engineers and contribute to projects affecting products in development and deployed in the field. The intern will gain experience in computational fluid dynamics, including use of machine learning and artificial intelligence models to accelerate fan performance predictions. The work may also include experimental laboratory activities such as wind tunnel and acoustic testing. The role is suited to a self-motivated student with a background in fluid mechanics, such as through undergraduate coursework or research.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework experience in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and turbomachinery design.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, SpaceClaim, or Creo; programming environments such as MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW; and commercial CFD codes such as ANSYS Fluent.
  • Experience applying AI models to engineering problems.
  • Strong interest in the design and development of turbomachinery.
  • Previous research experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Interest in solving engineering problems through experimental and computational techniques.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the AMS team to assist with the design and development of fan technologies using computational and laboratory-based methods, including applying machine learning and AI to engineering datasets.
  • Develop practical engineering skills while seeing a primary project through to completion.
  • Summarize progress and findings in weekly meetings and a final report to management.
