About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking Mechanical Engineers to join a global engineering team responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of designs and the continuous innovation of its rapidly expanding data center footprint. Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost-effective mechanical systems, are responsible for achieving world-class uptime for customers, and justify and communicate technical decisions to senior management. They drive continuous advancements and improvements in designs, and define and design the systems customers rely on. This role requires hands-on mechanical design and field experience, the ability to design and operate mechanical (cooling) systems, an understanding of critical equipment needs for a data center, and knowledge of the constructability of varying designs. Teamwork is essential, requiring collaboration with internal and external groups, including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Engineers in this role will work with Principals and Mechanical Engineers to drive standardization of designs across global regions in production data centers and resolve open technical issues. They will participate in research and development of new technologies and designs, serve as subject matter experts, and write technical documentation. Tasks include conceiving, initiating, and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation by breaking down complex problems into actionable solutions. Collaboration with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges, and with teams from other disciplines, cultures, and countries is expected. Escalating issues as required and communicating clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail is also part of the role. The position involves reviewing and approving critical equipment submittals, including vendor Witness Tests, providing technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), and participating in deep dives, investigations, and recommendations on mitigation plans. Maintaining and hosting technical mechanical forums to foster a collaborative environment for data center mechanical systems development, and providing support and mentorship for the Data Center Engineering community are also key responsibilities. The role encourages having fun and offering creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
