About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of its rapidly expanding data center footprint. Engineers at Amazon design resilient, cost-effective mechanical distribution systems and are responsible for achieving world-class uptime for customers. This role involves justifying and communicating technical decisions to senior management, driving continuous advancements, and defining/designing the systems customers rely on. The work environment is fast-paced and exciting, with opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning. Engineers will be responsible for taking designs from concept to permit and construction documents, defining critical equipment specifications, approving equipment submittals, and supporting construction from site selection through commissioning and turnover. The role requires subject matter expertise in mechanical engineering and strong teamwork skills, collaborating with internal and external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Occasional travel (up to 20%) may be necessary, including potential international travel for international support and schematic design package development.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities (data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities).
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities (data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities).
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Experience in commissioning.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
  • Develop data center mechanical designs and collaborate with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
  • Create designs that meet or exceed quality requirements and fall within budgetary constraints.
  • Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements.
  • Liaise with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals.
  • Define project scopes and provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical systems.
  • Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for site review, work with onsite field engineers, conduct engineering evaluations, perform mechanical systems audits, and support startup as needed.
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
