About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for an Associate or Senior Associate level position in their Denver, CO office, with expertise in dynamics and failure analysis. This role involves working as part of a nationwide team to analyze a wide variety of mechanical systems, from consumer products to heavy machinery. Responsibilities include experimental testing, field inspections, engineering analysis, and computer modeling. The successful candidate will apply mechanical engineering design and analysis principles to technical problems, demonstrating a strong background in experimental testing, computational analyses, creative problem-solving, and communication. The role requires interaction with clients, managers, engineers, laboratory personnel, and non-technical staff.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Specialized knowledge in dynamics, kinematics, vibrations, or other relevant motion fields with experience in collecting and analyzing data
  • Familiarity with terms and concepts related to mechanical engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to convey technical information to individuals in engineering, business, legal and related industries
  • Desire to solve problems, work around roadblocks or setbacks, and contribute positively wherever asked
  • Strong background in experimental mechanical testing or hands on experience
  • Strong ability to distill complex technical information and present it effectively to a wide range of audiences with varying technical backgrounds
  • Interest in collaborating and working with multidisciplinary teams within and across our various practices
  • Desire and drive to eventually manage large projects in terms of technical direction, staffing, budget, and client interactions
  • Willing to travel, sometimes on short notice
  • Ability and desire to become a Licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering
  • Valid US driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required

Responsibilities

  • Communicating effectively with other engineers, managers, clients and administrative professionals
  • Managing and executing specific projects related to a variety of mechanical engineering applications including failure analysis, product testing in the laboratory and evaluation of components, systems, and structures during site and field visits
  • Designing and implementing custom experimental methods to address unique problems related to mechanical performance
  • Performing technical evaluations and analysis to prepare written reports and presentations
  • Performing field inspections and conducting hands-on failure analysis for litigation matters
  • Marketing the firm’s technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community
  • Participating in office activities (monthly office meetings, learning lunches, etc) to foster a collaborative work environment; this is not a remote position and applicants should expect to work primarily from the Denver, Colorado location
