About The Position

Broadcom is looking for a Mechanical Engineer who can apply their expertise in opto-electronic packaging or networking switch design to help develop solutions for the next generation of silicon photonic engines, and advanced networking switch concepts. You will be a key contributor to Broadcom’s next-generation optical system development. You will interact with optical, process, electronic, IC and application engineers to provide an advanced mechanical solution. This is a fast-paced, visible position, which has a direct impact on product development execution as well as division revenue.

Requirements

  • Technical background with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in opto-mechanical designs
  • Proficient in mechanical design using CAD tools (Solidworks preferred), Flotherm or Ansys
  • Knowledge of how to design sheet metal, castings, injection mold parts material/vendor selection and first article assessment.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills for frequent customer interaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work within a team in cross-functional and geographically-distributed environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to dynamically prioritize assignments and work independently

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal simulations to determine thermal resistances, power dissipation, as well as mechanical stress over temperature
  • The use of tools like Flotherm & Ansys to simulate and optimize models of complex electronic assemblies under various conditions
  • Provide reports on the simulation results and findings from failure analysis
  • Development of new products including execution on concepts, design, drawings, vendor selection, part evaluation, and product builds
  • Generate designs and perform tolerance analysis of opto-mechanical structures
  • Failure analysis and design of experiment
  • Other activities will include generating designs of experiments, DFMEA, troubleshooting issues related to interoperability of components, hands-on lab experimentation and dimensional metrology.
