About The Position

A mechanical engineer performs as a part of a multifunctional team with a focus of designing, building, and testing the mechanical components of electronics and mechatronic systems. This position offers opportunity in all phases of an engineering project and production of products including: conception, component and assembly design, prototype assembly, testing, and production planning. Candidates must be able to work in a team-based, fast paced environment, work well under pressure and have the ability to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • CAD design experience (preferably Creo)
  • Strong communication skills in order to work with the team to determine specifications and to provide support for a product
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience designing electronics, mechanical systems, and/or electro-mechanical systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with FEA, CFD, CAE simulation
  • Experience in lithium battery design
  • Experience and/or interest in drone industry
  • Experience with 3D printers
  • Experience with thermal analysis

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creation of requirements captures based on experience and customer input
  • Research applicable topics
  • Propose, simulate, and validate proposed component and assembly designs
  • Assist with project timeline and budget estimates
  • Design mechanical/mechatronic components and assemblies based on requirements
  • Document assembly, BOM, and ECO information
  • Request and schedule design reviews
  • Lead mechanical product development on assigned projects
  • Optimize package density, material compatibility, thermal performance, structural performance, and life cycle
  • Implement engineering practices including DFM, DFMEA, etc., to ensure robustness of design
  • Cost and manufacturing optimization
  • Work with other teams and team members to complete other aspects of product design
  • Design components for a variety of manufacturing processes including (but not limited to): injection molding, machining, sheet metal, and 3D printing
  • Apply various assembly techniques to designs including (but not limited to): welding, soldering, molding/encapsulation, fastening
  • Assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of products
  • Create or assist with customer documentation and customer support
  • Work with suppliers on sourcing custom and COTS mechanical components
  • Provide mechanical models and drawings to suppliers
  • Conduct design reviews and DPARs with suppliers
  • Request and review quotes from suppliers
  • Promote a healthy team environment
  • Actively participate in design reviews
  • Assist in maintaining component and project database
  • Maintain a clean lab and workspace
