About The Position

Novelis is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for an approximately 12-week, on-site summer 2027 internship at its Berea, Kentucky facility. The intern will gain hands-on industry experience and work with the engineering team on project management, CAD design, equipment implementation, and the work management process. The role reports to the Engineering Leader. Novelis is a global aluminum recycling and rolling company and sustainable aluminum solutions provider, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The Berea facility has 150 employees and processes more than 750 million pounds of aluminum cans annually—approximately 20 percent of all cans recycled in the United States.

Requirements

Be enrolled in an accredited four-year university.
Be a sophomore, junior, senior, or recent graduate.
Have an interest in gaining hands-on industry experience prior to graduation.
Have effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with all levels of the organization.
Be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

Major in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Reliability, Electrical, Applied Engineering, or a related field.
Solid business insight.
High interest in becoming an engineer in a manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Develop improvements to general engineering processes.
Use CAD to design tools and equipment and, if possible, see designs through to implementation.
Work with outside contractors to scope and specify new or improved equipment for plant operations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Process, Operations, and EHS, to develop protocols related to safety initiatives.
