About The Position

Arizona Public Service (APS) Generation Non-Nuclear is seeking a motivated Professional Engineer III / Senior with extensive mechanical balance of plant design experience. This role will leverage technical expertise to ensure designs produced for APS Generating plants meet expectations for safety, quality, and performance. The ideal candidate will have a pragmatic, detail-oriented perspective with good time management skills and enjoy utilizing their engineering expertise.

Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Engineer III: Five (5) years of working experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • Engineer Senior: Eight (8) years of working experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • Approved degrees include: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Architectural, Structural.
  • A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management if a four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is presented.
  • This position may require access to and/or use of information subject to control under U.S. Export Control Laws.
  • Applicants will be required to confirm their U.S. person or non-US person status.
  • This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
  • The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position.
  • A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process.
  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

Responsibilities

  • Develops and applies unique solutions and applications to a broad range of technical issues and problems, making decisions and recommendations that have a moderate to significant effect on overall organization performance.
  • Prepares complex engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations and verifications, ensuring technical soundness, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Integrates interrelated elements of complex projects that are broad in scope, require considerations not previously encountered, and necessitate interpretation or modification of guidelines, while complying with design, regulatory, operating, and maintenance requirements.
  • Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and work scope meets customer requirements, budget, and schedule.
  • Provides technical guidance, leadership, and support to less experienced engineers.
  • Assists the organization in problem-solving by critically challenging assumptions and decisions to ensure optimal solutions and strategies are implemented.
  • Leverages industry and organization resources to resolve key technical issues and develops a path forward to address these issues, potentially interfacing with outside agencies and regulatory authorities.
  • May plan and coordinate programs and large-scale engineering projects or multiple medium-scale projects while acting as a technical specialist for a specific engineering field.
  • Monitors projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency and/or reviews design and documentation of complex projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules, and regulatory requirements.
  • May research new developments and technology and make recommendations to management on their feasibility for Company operations.
