About The Position

Stanley Black & Decker is seeking a Senior Engineer for their Global Tools & Storage team in Towson, MD. This role involves carrying out the design process to meet quality, performance, schedule, and cost objectives in a cross-functional environment. Responsibilities include concept development, prototyping, product testing, data collection, and defining product specifications. The engineer will perform advanced stack-ups and system analysis, investigate design issues and test failures, and implement corrective actions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams like Product Marketing, Reliability, and Field Research is essential to define customer requirements and translate them into product specifications. The role also involves meeting with suppliers and stakeholders, driving design reviews, working in a core team to develop products from start to finish, supporting prototype and engineering builds, implementing design and process controls, conducting root-cause analysis, and applying statistical and Lean Six-Sigma techniques. The engineer will support the engineering process to deliver products that meet the company's 'guaranteed tough' standard.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 to 5 years of experience.
Computer literate; MS Word, Power Point, Excel, FEA, 2D/3D CAD (CATIA experience a plus).
Demonstrated ability to dissect a problem to find the root cause, design a solution and create a test method to prove out the issue really is fixed.
Enjoys getting your hands dirty and being involved in building, testing and du-bugging tools throughout the development cycle.
Experience with product development: Design, DFM, root cause analysis, test instrumentation and data acquisition and analysis.
Quality - use of statistical tools, process capability, DOE’s, stack-ups.
Coordination of internal and external resources.
Accountable for managing the design process and owning the results.
Enjoy Full/fast-paced design cycles that average 2 years and a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

Successfully carry out the design process to achieve all quality, performance, schedule and cost objectives in a cross-functional environment.
Perform hands-on concept development, prototyping, product testing, data collection and definition of product specifications.
Independently carry out advanced stack-ups and system analysis to ensure product assembly and functionality remain consistent throughout its lifetime.
Investigate design issues & test failures, and effectively identify, recommend and implement corrective actions to components.
Partner with cross-functional teams (Product Marketing, Reliability, Field Research) to identify and clearly define customer requirements, and translate those requirements into appropriate product specifications and develop test systems to ensure we meet or exceed customer expectations.
Meet with suppliers, project stakeholders to review designs and alter as needed. Drive the design review.
Work in a core team of 3-4 engineers/designers to develop a product from start to finish.
Support prototype and engineering builds for engineering and manufacturing teams and initial production lots to ensure that the products are assembled and tested in the correct way to ensure long term product quality.
Implements design and process controls, conducts root-cause analysis, and apply statistical and Lean Six-Sigma techniques to maintain and improve product quality as problems arise thru the product development cycle.
Support the Engineering process for all engineering requirements to deliver a product that meets our history of guaranteed tough products.
