Mechanical Designer of MGSE - 12 month Mandate
About The Position
MDA Space is seeking a Mechanical Designer of MGSE to join their Satellite systems team in Montreal. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop subsystem components, products, or structures used in the manufacturing, assembly, or testing of state-of-the-art satellite products or subsystems. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for establishing mechanical concepts and associated documentation for ground support equipment, such as tooling, fixtures, jigs, and mechanisms, to assemble, test, or deliver customized space products. This includes defining mechanical assembly components that ensure safety, using advanced 3D modeling and simulation software, and participating in the preparation of manufacturing and user documentation. The role also involves coordinating design-related activities to ensure smooth project progress. This is for a 12-month mandate with the possibility of extension.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, automated production engineering or equivalent
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical design
- Good communication skills
- Knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project and MS Excel
Nice To Haves
- Bilingual (English/French)
- Experience in mechanical design of tooling and jigs
- Knowledge of geometric tolerancing, drawing standards
- CAD design skills (NX, Creo or Catia)
- Knowledge of the space industry
Responsibilities
- Mechanical design of ground support equipment used to manufacture/assemble or deliver antennas, payloads or space electronics.
- Understand customer specifications
- Suggest new concepts to meet these requirements
- Select/design components according to constraints
- Integrate concepts from electrical, manufacturing, alignment, thermal and structural analysis into 3D models
- Develop detail and assembly drawings, parts lists and user guides
- Monitor operations of component suppliers
- Support the use of designed and assembled equipment during integration and testing activities.
