About The Position

MDA Space is a global leader in communications satellites, Earth and space observation, and space exploration and infrastructure. We are seeking a Mechanical Designer of Space Products to join our Satellite systems team in Montreal. This is a 12-month mandate with the possibility of extension. As a Mechanical Designer, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop antennas or structures for state-of-the-art satellites. You will be responsible for the design of customized space products for international customers, from the bidding phase through to detailed definition. This involves defining mechanical assembly components to meet customer needs and withstand the space environment, utilizing advanced simulation and 3D design software. You may also contribute to mass budgets, support manufacturing and testing, assist in R&D of new concepts, and liaise with international component suppliers. The role requires coordination of all design-related activities to ensure project progress.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other equivalent
Ability to work in a team environment
Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical design
Good communication skills
Knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel

Nice To Haves

Bilingual (English/French)
Experience in the field of mechanical design
Knowledge of geometric tolerancing, drawing standards
Knowledge of CAD design (NX, Creo or Catia)
Knowledge of the space industry

Responsibilities

Design mechanical components of antennas, payloads, or space electronics units.
Understand the customer's requirements
Propose concepts that meet the requirements
Select/design components according to constraints
Integrate concepts from electrical, material, structural and thermal engineering disciplines into a 3D model
Develop/review manufacturing drawings, assembly and parts lists
Evaluate system costs, establish schedules
Monitor component suppliers' activities
Support integration and testing of components into higher level assemblies (during design and manufacturing phases)
Develop mass budgets
Present concepts to the customer
