As a mechanical harness designer, you will work with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop harnesses for antennas, satellite payloads and satellite platforms. As part of one or more project teams and under the supervision of an experienced engineer, you will be responsible for establishing the concepts for our harnesses. From the bid phase to detailed definition, you will define the components of the harnesses to ensure that the final product meets the specific needs of the customer and can meet technical requirements. To define the product, you will use a suite of advanced software tools such as computer-aided design (CAD) software to model concepts and predict their behaviour. You may participate in the development of mass budgets and provide support for harness manufacturing and testing. You may also be called upon to support the research and development of new high-performance designs and to monitor component or harness suppliers. As a designer, you will be responsible for coordinating design-related activities to ensure the smooth progress of the project. This is for a 12 month mandate with possibility of extension.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent
  • Ability to work in a team
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work well with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good note-taking and ability to track changes that may affect harnesses.
  • Knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
  • Knowledge of harness component selection

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/French) (Contact with customers outside Quebec)
  • Experience in mechanical harness design
  • Knowledge of CAD design (NX preferred)
  • Knowledge of standards and regulations relating to harnesses and electronic systems
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic interference requirements in harnesses and signal separation.
  • Knowledge of VBA programming

Responsibilities

  • Select harness components
  • Design harness routing, including the selection of mounting points
  • Understand customer requirements
  • Suggest designs that meet requirements
  • Integrate designs and requirements from electrical engineering, materials, structural and thermal analysis into a 3D model
  • Develop/review manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and parts lists
  • Evaluate system costs and establish schedules
  • Monitor the progress of component suppliers
  • Support the integration and testing of components in higher-level assemblies (during the design and manufacturing phases)
  • Develop mass production budgets
  • Present designs to internal or external customers
