Mechanical Designer 2 - Nuclear Power

Sargent & Lundy•Remote,
•$64,817 - $93,201

About The Position

The Mechanical Designer 2 works under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead and collaborates with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to develop mechanical physical-layout drawings in a 3D model. The role includes designing mechanical systems and investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving a variety of mechanical design issues. The designer uses 3D modeling software to create mechanical design schematics and may serve as the mechanical design team lead in coordinating detailed design phases across an integrated mechanical design model. The position independently plans and executes design deliverables, including general arrangements, piping isometrics, piping composites, pipe support drawings, and equipment location drawings. It also coordinates and guides designers and project team members to ensure complete and timely design work, mentors less experienced drafters and designers, and may involve field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities. The role is part of Sargent & Lundy's Nuclear Power Group, which works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing projects.

  • Five or more years of detailed physical design experience developing mechanical general arrangements, piping systems, and supports.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for executing 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical equipment, including outlines and interface points, and coordinating and developing associated deliverables.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams from other disciplines in the power plant design process.
  • Must already have U.S. work authorization; the employer does not sponsor work authorization for this position.
