Mechanical Designer 3 - Nuclear Power

Sargent & Lundy•Richmond, VA
•Hybrid

About The Position

The Mechanical Designer 3 develops mechanical design deliverables for nuclear power projects as part of multidisciplinary engineering and design teams. Under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead, the role develops general arrangement, piping isometric, pipe support, and mechanical equipment layout drawings in a 3-D model. The designer uses Hexagon SmartPlant S3D modeling software and the SPF database to create deliverables, bills of materials, and commodity lists, and interprets piping and instrumentation diagrams developed using SPID to produce physical designs consistent with engineering requirements. The position may serve as the mechanical design team lead, coordinating detailed design phases across an integrated mechanical design model. It resolves model clashes and discrepancies, coordinates with other designers and project team members, independently plans and executes mechanical deliverables, and mentors less experienced drafters and designers. The role offers a hybrid schedule and is based in the Richmond, Mineral, and Surry, Virginia area. The employer does not sponsor U.S. work authorization for this position.

Requirements

  • At least three years of detailed design experience developing mechanical plant design drawings, including piping, pipe supports, and equipment layouts.

  • Experience interfacing with SmartPlant Administrators to develop mechanical deliverable templates and catalogs.
  • Experience with drawing presentation rules setup.
  • Experience reviewing project deliverables and drawing requirements.
  • Experience reviewing vendor drawings and interface points.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams from other disciplines in the plant design process.
