About The Position

The Mechanical Designer 3 works under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead as part of multidisciplinary engineering and design teams in the Nuclear Power Group. The role develops mechanical general arrangement, piping isometric, pipe support, and equipment layout drawings in a 3-D model. The position has a hybrid schedule, with time split between the office and working remotely from home. The designer uses Hexagon SmartPlant S3D and the SPF database to create mechanical design deliverables, bills of materials, and commodity lists. The role interprets piping and instrumentation diagrams developed using SPID and develops physical designs that meet engineering requirements. It also leads coordination of detailed design phases for integrated mechanical models, resolves model clashes and discrepancies, and coordinates and guides other designers and project team members. The position independently plans and executes mechanical deliverables and mentors less experienced drafters and designers.

Requirements

  • SmartPlant S3D modeling experience, including understanding the integration of SPID, SPF, and S3D.
  • Experience with clash detection and resolution.
  • Experience checking discrepancies between deliverables.
  • Experience interfacing with SmartPlant Administrators to develop mechanical deliverable templates and catalogs.
  • Experience setting up Drawing Presentation Rules.
  • Experience with plant model data management.
  • At least three years of detailed design experience developing mechanical plant design drawings for piping, pipe supports, and equipment layout.
  • Proficiency with design software tools for executing 3-D plant layout models.
  • Experience reviewing project deliverables and drawing requirements.
  • Experience reviewing vendor drawings and interface points.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams from other disciplines in the plant design process.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools.
