Mechanical Design Team Lead

LiquidStackCarrollton, TX

About The Position

At LiquidStack, we’re redefining what’s possible in the data center world. As a global leader in advanced liquid cooling solutions, we’re powering the future of AI, edge computing, and high-performance systems. Our team is growing, and we’re looking for skilled professionals who want to be part of something innovative and impactful. About LiquidStack LiquidStack is the established leader in liquid cooling for data center, HPC, and AI workloads, with manufacturing, R&D, and headquarters in Carrollton, Texas and a longstanding engineering presence in Hong Kong. As part of Trane Technologies, we are scaling our US-based engineering capability to augment our Hong Kong team. The new Texas engineering team will focus on the design, development, and delivery of large Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and skidded direct-to-chip platforms — including our GigaModular™ CDU family — for hyperscale, colocation, and AI infrastructure customers. The team will own manufacturability, ETL / CSA / CE / NRTL compliance, and customer-facing engineering for these product families, working in close collaboration with the Hong Kong team on shared architecture and component engineering. The Mechanical Design team owns the physical architecture of CDU skids and enclosures — including the GigaModular™ platform — covering frame design, piping layout, component packaging, and design for manufacturability. Role Summary Senior individual contributor and technical anchor for mechanical design of US-built CDUs. Sets standards, mentors engineers, and owns the most complex mechanical packages.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience in industrial equipment, data center infrastructure, or skidded systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo, including large-assembly and sheet-metal workflows.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, weldment design, and structural analysis fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with ASME piping codes, OSHA seismic requirements, and US data center standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for skids, frames, enclosures, and sheet-metal assemblies.
  • Design for manufacturability with the Carrollton manufacturing site and US fabricators (sheet metal, weldments, structural frames).
  • Specify and integrate piping, hose, and fluid-handling components per applicable codes (ASME B31.3, ASME B31.9, or equivalent).
  • Participate in design reviews, tolerance stack analyses, and FMEA exercises.
  • Collaborate with the Hong Kong mechanical team on shared platform components.
  • Support prototyping, NPI builds, and root-cause analysis on field issues.
  • Own mechanical architecture decisions for new skidded and modular platforms.
  • Establish CAD standards, drawing standards, and BOM conventions for the US team.
  • Mentor the Mechanical Engineer and Mechanical Design Associate.
  • Serve as the senior mechanical interface to the Hong Kong team.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay with opportunities for overtime
