The Mechanical Design Engineer designs, develops, and documents fiber optic components and devices to meet customer requirements. The role creates new product designs and maintains existing products for AIS using customer, company, or vendor drawings and specifications, while integrating physical design and manufacturing considerations to meet form, fit, and function requirements. The position works across departments and supports product development and production through technical documentation, engineering changes, tooling, prototypes, test and assembly fixtures, material selection, bills of materials, product lifecycle support, and ISO documentation. It also supports OCC’s service excellence, quality, vision, and values, and must comply with company policies, ethical standards, the Code of Conduct, ISO, SOX, and engineering standards. This is a sedentary position in a typically moderately noisy work environment. It requires vision for quality work, reading and computer use, hearing for normal workplace conversation and training, manual dexterity for significant testing, and color vision. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The regular schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with some schedule flexibility required. Travel is not required. Because the work involves U.S. government and/or federal-agency contracts, personnel involved must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents and provide valid documentation.
