About The Position

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical designs and solutions for semiconductor and display manufacturing equipment. The role involves solving difficult mechanical problems, conducting engineering analyses, creating and reviewing design documentation, and leading or executing projects with limited supervision. The engineer will also develop custom tooling and processes, work with suppliers, and communicate complex technical information to build consensus.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 4–7 years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience with CAD software, thermodynamics, sheet metal design, material selection, manufacturing methods, GD&T, flow analysis, and/or Design for Excellence principles.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of the Applied Materials product life cycle, including prototyping, packaging, material selection, and manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Identify and troubleshoot difficult mechanical problems with limited supervision.
• Define, coordinate, perform, and document engineering test reports.
• Develop, design, or modify mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, drawings, and specifications for work of difficult scope.
• Perform engineering analysis of difficult scope with limited supervision.
• Technically lead or execute projects, develop key suppliers, and generate mechanical product specifications.
• Design, develop, and implement custom mechanical tooling, fixtures, and related processes for handling, assembling, or disassembling parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies.
• Establish standards across operational processes.
• Specify and review engineering documentation.
• Implement concepts to address complex product issues and mechanical solutions.
• Clearly communicate complex or sensitive information and build consensus.
