Internship - Mechanical Design Engineer

ASML•Wilton, CT
•Onsite

About The Position

ASML is seeking a Summer Intern in Mechanical Design Engineering to help develop hardware solutions for lithography systems and associated tooling. The intern will work on the Level Sensor Lens sub-system, involving precision mechanics and/or opto-mechanics. Precision machine design begins with understanding functional requirements and deriving specifications. As part of a multidisciplinary project team, the intern will collaborate with design engineers and sub-system architects to develop concepts, conduct engineering analysis, build and test prototypes, create detailed CAD designs and engineering drawings, work with suppliers, and support system integration and testing. The position is on-site in Wilton, Connecticut, and requires a 12-week commitment beginning either June 2, 2027, or June 14, 2027.

Requirements

  • Be pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, Optics, or a related engineering discipline, and have completed two years of study.
  • Have exposure to mechanical design, including kinematics, dynamics, material properties and behavior, and structural analysis.
  • Have experience with 3D solid modeling for design conceptualization and realization.
  • Be familiar with thermal and structural engineering fundamentals.
  • Have basic experience with mechanical analytical techniques, including first-principles engineering equations and finite element analysis, such as stress, strain, deformation, and modal response.
  • Demonstrate the ability to draw conclusions from analysis and make practical recommendations.
  • Have strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Be available for a 12-week internship beginning June 2, 2027, or June 14, 2027.
  • Be willing to work on-site in Wilton, Connecticut, and in a clean-room environment wearing required protective garments and equipment.
  • Demonstrate customer focus, ability to learn and apply new information, attention to detail, accuracy, adaptability, accountability, and effective independent and team work.
  • Be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents, and communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Complete a background check and any other tests required for an employment offer.
  • Be legally authorized to access controlled technology before beginning work if the position requires such access.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in mechanical design of mechatronics, precision design, or complex optical systems.
  • Good intuition for complex mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in developing hardware solutions for lithography systems and associated tooling.
  • Work on the Level Sensor Lens sub-system involving precision mechanics and/or opto-mechanics.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and sub-system architects to develop concepts and derive specifications from functional requirements.
  • Perform engineering analysis and build and test prototypes.
  • Create detailed CAD designs and engineering drawings.
  • Partner with suppliers and support system integration and testing.
