About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop electrical enclosures, control cabinets, and chassis structures that support mission-critical hardware in power generation and industrial systems. In this role, you’ll work at the intersection of mechanical design and electrical integration, partnering closely with hardware design and testing teams to deliver reliable, safety-critical solutions. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, hands-on experience with 3D modeling and panel design, and a solid understanding of industry codes, standards, and environmental requirements. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents. Remote with 10% travel to Wilmington, NC.

Requirements

  • 4–6+ years of experience in mechanical design or electrical packaging
  • Experience designing enclosures, cabinets, or chassis systems
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Understanding of electrical systems, wiring, or cable routing
  • Experience creating engineering drawings and documentation
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with control panels or industrial equipment design
  • Knowledge of EMC, seismic, or environmental design standards
  • Experience with wire harness design or connector selection
  • Familiarity with Vault or CAD data management tools
  • Experience supporting testing, validation, or field integration
  • Experience in the adoption and/or integration of emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, digital assistants) into day-to-day operations for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical enclosures, control cabinets, and chassis systems
  • Create 2D and 3D CAD models and drawing packages (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar)
  • Support panel layout, connector placement, and cable routing design
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics and system requirements
  • Ensure designs meet EMC, seismic, and environmental standards
  • Support integration, testing, and validation of hardware designs
  • Document designs and support design reviews and verification activities
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to define the scope and resolve issues
