POSITION SUMMARY: Without supervision, become a subject matter expert (SME) in an assigned specialty to support new and existing projects. Products include laminated elastomer bearing based components for offshore riser and tendon connections as well as hang-off systems for offshore riser components. Requires closely partnering with operations, manufacturing engineering, quality and project management. Some interface with Customers, certifying authorities and material/outside fabrication vendors also required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree with at least 4 years of direct experience; OR BS in Mechanical Engineering or related degree with at least 5 years of direct experience.
  • Advanced experience with FEA, including advanced level of proficiency using SIMULIA Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation or other Numerical Analysis software.
  • Applied theory in designing with elastomeric materials.
  • Advanced level of experience with data analysis.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Detail-focused and results-oriented attitude with a sense of urgency.
  • Handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Must establish proof of US Citizenship. Dual Citizenship (US citizenship and citizenship of some other country) cannot be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) in an assigned specialty to support new and existing projects.
  • Closely partner with operations, manufacturing engineering, quality and project management.
  • Interface with Customers, certifying authorities and material/outside fabrication vendors.
  • Perform as a CAE/FEA SME, demonstrating thorough knowledge of a particular code (ABAQUS, SolidWorks Simulation or other Numerical Analysis software).
  • Independently perform tasks including demonstrating thorough knowledge of associated industry standards, in-house codes and engineering principles that govern the design of assigned product lines.
  • Interpret Customer supplied loading conditions and project analysis output requirements, assuring they align with both OSI and industry accepted practices.
  • Set up a model and associated boundary conditions and troubleshoot convergence and modeling approach issues.
  • Run and interpret the results from FEA to verify component structural and thermal performance, recognize erroneous output or structurally problematic areas and recommend modeling and design solutions.
  • Lead research and development projects in terms of new products and materials.
  • Lead the design, construction and testing of prototypes to confirm new designs and materials.
  • Direct interface with Customers and Certifying Authorities, justifying our products meet project/industry standard requirements.
  • Mentor less experienced team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
