Mechanical Engineer III - Design

Voyager Technologies, Inc.•Reno, NV
•$94,695 - $155,300

About The Position

Voyager Technologies is hiring a Mechanical Engineer III to contribute to the design, analysis, modeling, materials development, manufacturing, and systems engineering of mission-critical technology. The role involves applying mechanical engineering principles to actuator and pressure vessel designs, igniter performance, hot gas valves, thrusters, and solid rocket motor systems. The engineer will evaluate design alternatives and recommend solutions. The position includes creating precise 2D and 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings; interpreting GD&T; and conducting simulation and engineering analyses, including structural, dynamic, thermal, tolerance, and CFD analyses. It also involves evaluating materials such as ceramics, rubber and phenolic insulators, advanced metals, and refractory metals, as well as supporting manufacturing activities across additive manufacturing, composites, machining, molding, casting, welding, and assembly. The engineer will communicate complex technical information through presentations, reports, and user manuals; contribute to propellant and ballistics-related work; and support mass budgeting, program planning, requirements analysis, reliability, safety, and risk management. Approximately 10% travel is required. The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level and meet applicable U.S. government export-control requirements.

Requirements

  • Four to seven years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. government space technology export-control requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Rocket motor design and testing experience.
  • Master of Science in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Current DoD Top Secret SCI Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design actuators, pressure vessels, hot gas valves, and thrusters, and contribute to solid rocket motor systems.
  • Analyze igniter performance and perform stress analysis.
  • Evaluate design alternatives and provide design recommendations.
  • Create 2D and 3D models, complex assemblies, and precise technical drawings; interpret GD&T.
  • Perform CFD simulations and structural, dynamic, thermal, and tolerance analyses; interpret results and optimize designs.
  • Analyze geometric features, datum reference frames, and functional tolerancing, and recommend design or manufacturing improvements.
  • Evaluate ceramic, rubber, phenolic, advanced metal, and refractory metal properties and contribute to insulator systems and material development.
  • Support manufacturing planning and activities involving additive manufacturing, carbon composites, machining, molding, casting, welding, and mechanical assembly.
  • Prepare technical presentations, reports, and user manuals, adapting communications to different audiences.
  • Apply knowledge of propellant chemistry, combustion mechanisms, grain configuration design, and solid propellant formulation and manufacturing.
  • Support mass calculations, mass budgets, and mass reduction efforts.
  • Develop program plans, understand acquisition life cycles, and coordinate activities.
  • Apply reliability, safety, requirements analysis, and risk management principles.
