This job can be described as: At Chesterton, we have a laser focus on our customers. The Mechanical Assembler I is an entry level position and is responsible for the assembly of Spring Energized Seals (SES) using a variety of hand tools (tweezers, plyers, etc.) and a magnifying glass to solder small metal springs and clasps together to create the desired product. Performs a variety of repetitive operations to assemble a wide array of SES. Stores and retrieves materials as required. Must be able to work overtime as required, maintain a positive and focused attitude, and be willing to support all the team’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Entry level.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Performs work under general Supervision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed for the role.
  • Manual dexterity to utilize small hand tools and perform repetitive assembly tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions based on a set of predetermined parameters.
  • Ability to operate simple machinery (small welder).
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and work well with others.
  • Basic reading and math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work and walk about in a manufacturing shop floor environment, wear required protective clothing, i.e., steel toe shoes and safety glasses.
  • Repetitive elbow movements, rotating wrist movements, grasping and squeezing.
  • Must be able to move, reach above the shoulders and bend freely.
  • Must be able to adhere to any requirements of the job and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of repetitive tasks using simple hand tools, i.e., tweezers, plyers, etc. to assemble SES.
  • Uses the above hand tools to join metal parts and form a permanent bond to the correct product specification.
  • Identifies and selects appropriate material for each assembled SES.
  • Performs simple in process quality control inspection to validate fit and function.
  • Maintains clean and efficient assembly bench in work area in accordance to 5S policies and procedures.
  • Stores and retrieves materials as required.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required, maintain a positive and focused attitude, and be willing to support all the team’s goals and objectives.
