About The Position

SMS group is an industrial equipment manufacturer for the steel industry. We design, build, and service equipment and sleep plants across the globe with a strong technical services/machine shop network in North America. The right candidate will be a safety-minded person who enjoys hands-on work, with the ability to assemble and disassemble various components, document daily activities, and possess good mechanical skills in daily operations. This role involves performing cleaning, grinding, painting, and all related tasks to buildings, equipment, components, and subassemblies. It also includes cleanup, removal of trash, coolant, oil, scrap, chips, etc. The candidate must be courteous, work well with others, complete Maintenance Request Forms for items in the work area in need of repair, and maintain a safe and clean working environment, upholding a world-class standard of housekeeping. A safety-conscious attitude and the ability to report any unsafe acts or areas to management are essential.

Requirements

  • Good mechanical skills.
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical tools.
  • Basic shop math, and other functions necessary for the job.
  • Blueprint reading - interprets drawings.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Self-motivation to identify, analyze and independently work to find solutions to flow issues is essential.
  • Ability to learn and understand critical processes and operations in assigned areas.
  • Resourcefulness in accomplishing objectives and completing tasks.
  • Must be courteous and work well with others.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and disassemble various components.
  • Document daily activities.
  • Perform cleaning, grinding, painting and all related tasks to buildings, equipment, components, and subassemblies.
  • Perform clean up, removal of trash, coolant, oil, scrap, chips, etc.
  • Complete Maintenance Request Forms for items in work area in need of repair.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, upholding a world-class standard of housekeeping.
  • Work with a safety conscientious attitude and report any unsafe acts or area to members of management.
  • Lift equipment safely, know where disconnect switches are, perform daily crane inspections, load and unload trucks, stage equipment.
  • Drive forklift safely, load and unload, refuel, perform daily forklift inspections.
  • Work from bills of material, purchasing lists, shipping documents and parts/ shop supplies.
