Mechanical Assemblers build high-value proprietary products according to build books, follow drawings, and use their experience to interpret plans. They use measuring equipment to verify the quality of parts and assemblies. Customer orders involve customization, so machines may vary from one order to another. The role works on assemblies and projects across one or more product lines. It involves using common assembly tools and performing activities such as bench work, sawing, drilling, hand tapping, deburring, part marking, and using arbor presses and bearing heaters. Assemblers may build mechanical subassemblies, assemble shafts and gear or bearing assemblies, run air and lubrication lines, perform machine setups, and carry out machine shakedowns, teardowns, and punch-list work. The role also includes redlining drawings for engineering, installing machine guards, signs, and nameplates, and helping close out shop orders, including returning materials to stock. Other duties may be assigned. The work generally consists of 40 hours per week and may include on-call status, evenings, or weekends. Physical demands vary, and lifting is limited to 50 pounds without a forklift or assistance. Work must be carried out safely and in a manner that respects environmental, health, and safety values.
