About The Position

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is hiring a Mechanical Analysis Manager 1 for its Engineering and Sciences organization in Woodland Hills, California. This is a fully onsite position on a 9/80 schedule, with approximately 80% of the role devoted to program technical work and 20% to staff management and development. The manager leads mechanical analysis engineers supporting the design and development of military avionics, including inertial navigation and measurement systems and mission computers, using model-based engineering and agile practices. The role combines hands-on technical leadership in structural and thermal analysis with people management. The manager performs and oversees analysis and finite element modeling, helps ensure compliance with customer and internal requirements, supports testing and design reviews, and contributes to engineering process improvement. They also guide team performance, development, staffing, proposals, and organizational planning. Travel is expected approximately 10% of the time, and the position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Self-motivation, willingness to learn, and comfort working under pressure on requests with short turnaround times.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead and individual contributor for the Mechanical Analysis team, guiding structural and thermal analysis activities.
  • Lead and perform structural analyses, including static, dynamics, stability, and damage tolerance analyses of metallic structures, mechanical systems, electromechanical systems, and avionics equipment, using hand calculations and approved automated tools and methods.
  • Develop and oversee finite element models using CAD geometry, meshing, and solution runs for system, subsystem, piece-part, and assembly-level analyses.
  • Review engineering drawings, requirements, and material selections, and perform analyses to demonstrate compliance with internal and customer requirements.
  • Guide development and manipulation of large-scale finite element models; develop and document analysis methods, calculation aids, and tools; and propose and implement analytical approaches suited to program needs.
  • Compute margins of safety and ensure analysis documentation is clear, traceable, and aligned with certification requirements.
  • Develop and review static and dynamic test plans and procedures; support structural and environmental testing, data reduction, and correlation of test results with analytical models.
  • Participate in and present at internal and customer design and program reviews, communicating analysis assumptions, methods, and results.
