About The Position

Responsible for the maintaining and repairing all district fleet vehicles, Gas & Diesel engines, and heavy equipment.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Possess current Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or willing to obtained within 90 days of employment
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License, a good driving record, and proof of insurance on vehicle used to travel to district
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting and background check
  • Possess or willing to obtain within 90 days a Texas State inspection license
  • Ability to diagnose and repair fleet vehicles, Gas & Diesel engines, and heavy equipment
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Able to repair hydraulic, and airbrake systems
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a vehicle mechanic
  • Experience in repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline operated vehicles and equipment

Responsibilities

  • Perform required maintenance to include periodic checks on tires, oil, gasoline, propane, coolant, grease, plugs, brake shoes, exhausts, lights, safety equipment, and steering systems
  • Follow PM schedule and perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles to include state inspections/emission test assigned by Supervisor
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures
  • Maintain vehicle records, work orders, and parts use
  • Report and consult with Supervisor on major repair problems
  • Perform road calls and on-call phone duties as required
  • Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance and work orders
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties appropriately
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Transportation Supervisor immediately
  • Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles
  • May do welding and minor body work
  • Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition
  • Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service
  • Works irregular hours as needed
  • Drive a school bus with or without students on board
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
