About The Position

The Mechanic Helper assists the Maintenance Technician Lead with maintenance and repairs on vehicles, chassis, and other equipment. The role also includes minor field repairs, shop organization, maintenance and repair recordkeeping, inventory monitoring, and grounds and landscape maintenance. The employee must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

• High school graduation or a GED.
• At least three months of mechanical repair experience, preferably working with or for a mechanic.
• Knowledge of a variety of vehicle bodies, preventive maintenance, and gas- and diesel-vehicle repair.
• Ability to follow instructions and read service and repair manuals.
• Ability to use power and hand tools and various shop equipment.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to work effectively with internal and external customers.
• Ability to operate commonly used hand and powered landscaping tools and equipment.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
• Must be able to obtain a DBIDS Credential Identification, TWIC Card, and Port Authority of Guam Identification Card.
• Must possess a valid Guam Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

• Guam Driver’s License endorsements A and B are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with vehicle, chassis, and equipment maintenance and repairs, including tune-ups, oil changes, tire and brake checks, and spark plug replacement.
• Assist with electrical-system work, such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights.
• Perform minor equipment repairs in the field.
• Maintain and monitor parts, fluids, replacement parts, and equipment inventories.
• Clean the shop and return tools to their proper locations.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
• Update vehicle maintenance and repair logs.
• Perform regular grounds and landscape maintenance, such as grass cutting.
• Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
