About The Position

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment, trucks, trailers, and heavy machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, supporting fleet reliability, and maintaining compliance with company safety standards and DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and preventive maintenance programs. This position requires attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to workplace safety. They should bring their own tools and electrical knowledge This is a safety-sensitive position requiring a high level of accountability and awareness. The employee is responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance practices
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to safely operate tools and equipment required for repairs and maintenance

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school certification or diesel mechanic training preferred
  • 2+ years of diesel maintenance or heavy equipment repair experience preferred
  • Experience working with Class A or B commercial vehicles preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documents
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues
  • Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and fuel systems
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure equipment meets DOT and company safety standards
  • Complete work orders, maintenance records, and repair documentation accurately and timely
  • Perform emergency repairs and roadside service calls when necessary
  • Operate diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized repair equipment safely and effectively
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Communicate equipment issues and repair timelines with supervisors and operations teams
  • Assist with inventory control and parts management as needed
  • Follow all company policies, environmental regulations, and safety procedures
