About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead at Wildwood Creek Correctional Complex (WCC) located in Kenai, Alaska. This position is essential for the overall security of the facility, protection of the public, the well-being and safety of inmates, and employees by ensuring that systems and equipment operate in an acceptable manner. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy duty and light duty vehicles, equipment, and mechanical systems. It also includes performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks to ensure reliable operation and regulatory compliance. The mechanic will troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals. Additionally, the position oversees daily shop operations and provides direction, training, and oversight to inmate workers to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant work practices. Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following all workplace safety procedures and guidelines is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, benefits, repair, operation, and maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, analyze, and identify system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check and obtain a security clearance for the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).
  • Must be fingerprinted.
