About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) State Equipment Fleet is seeking a Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to maintain all light duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other user agency vehicles. This role involves performing routine and specialized maintenance and repairs, diagnosing problems, and making repairs to gasoline and diesel engines, fuel injection systems, hydraulic systems, brakes (including air), and electrical systems for light and heavy-duty equipment. The incumbent will also identify parts and materials, order from parts manuals, and document time and materials on work orders.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Alaska driver's license.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to set well-defined and realistic personal goals, display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner, work with minimal supervision, be motivated to achieve, and demonstrate responsible behavior.
  • Ability to adapt to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
  • Must provide own hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Professionally maintain all light duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles.
  • Perform routine and specialized maintenance and repairs requiring the ability to recognize and diagnose problems or potential problems during preventative maintenance services.
  • Make repairs to gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Identify all parts and materials needed for jobs.
  • Identify and order from parts manuals through the local parts depot.
  • Document time and materials on work orders.
  • Diagnose, maintain, repair, and modify transmission and drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems (including fuel injection systems), hydraulic systems, brakes (including air), and electrical systems for light and heavy-duty equipment.
