About The Position

Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment, such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears, or saws. May set up machining machines, make adjustments, and perform machine maintenance. Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs, and fixtures to measure close tolerances. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. The role is full-time, based at Newport News Shipbuilding, and is not eligible for telework. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and work the assigned shift based on production needs.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship is required.
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of additional education and/or related experience; alternatively, an apprentice graduate or associate degree in a relevant discipline and one year of related experience.
May require certification.
Ability to climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
Ability to work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis.
Ability to lift heavy objects weighing 40 pounds or more.
Ability to work while repeatedly reaching overhead.
Ability to work indoors or outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
Ability to take and pass a respirator fit test.
